Were Last Night’s SAG Awards a Window into the Oscars?

For those who don’t know, last night marked the 18th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. Though it isn’t known for being the most exciting award show around (perhaps that’s why it’s reduced to only 2 hours), the SAG Award ceremony does provide some nice insight into the upcoming Oscars. You see, the actor’s branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences makes up about 1,183 of the 6,000+ voters that determine Oscar winners, so those actors who are strong favorites in the SAGs can count on a good amount of support at the Oscars.

Of course, the same doesn’t apply for TV actors, whose Academy Award ceremony won’t be for some time, but it still comes as one of the highest honors in the industry for the time being. Check out the list below to see who won at this year’s SAGs (and consequently who has a good chance at this year’s Oscars):

Outstanding Cast in a Motion Picture — The Help
Outstanding Female Actor in a Leading Role — Viola Davis, The Help
Outstanding Male Actor in a Leading Role — Jean Dujardin, The Artist
