The video-streaming battle between Netflix and Inc. is intensifying, as both companies seek to become more like Hollywood producers, with Amazon upping the stakes this week in a big content deal.
Amazon AMZN, -0.73% , fresh off two awards at the Golden Globes for its new show “Transparent,” announced a deal on Tuesday with filmmaker Woody Allen to write and direct his first television series.
Netflix Inc. NFLX, +0.10% was certainly not a wallflower at the awards either, with actor Kevin Spacey winning for best actor in a dramatic series, for his role in the popular “House of Cards” show. In addition, Netflix’s women’s prison comedy/drama “Orange is the New Black,” lost to “Transparent,” a show about adult siblings learning their father is transgender.
