NBC’s 30 Rock is known for making fun of all kinds of media and entertainment personalities, but last night they decided to give themselves a taste of their own medicine (if that makes sense…).
For those who don’t keep up on entertainment news, this summer was a controversial time for 30 Rock star Tracy Morgan, who was vilified in June after making some anti-gay comments to his audience while performing standup in Nashville, TN. Although he did subsequently apologize to the gay community and his audience for his actions, he attempted to further clarify his mistakes last night through his character Tracy Jordan.
In the episode, aptly named “Idiots are People Two!”, Tracy Jordan makes anti-gay comments to his standup audience, and then in an attempt to make things right he accidentally apologizes to Glad Bags (instead of GLAAD). He then enlists the help of Tina Fey’s character Liz Lemon to apologize for him, who does so by saying “He’s just an idiot who doesn’t know what he’s saying.” Subsequently, Tracy (the character) organizes a protest in the name of idiots everywhere, eventually joined by “self-proclaimed idiot” Denise Richards.
